Sustainable Facilities Management is a fully integrated facilities management practice that consists of “Green Building” methodology in Facilities Management (FM) and consulting in local governments, as well as the industrial and commercial market place. It can contribute to the sustainability of facilities that been manage and the quality of life for the people that work there. To implement Sustainable Facilities Management effectively in this competitive business operation, FM professionals need to be knowledgeable about business management, strategic planning, construction management and engineering towards sustainability in FM.
Current sustainability methods and practices rely on fully integrated holistic approach to deliver all of the services: administrative, project management, operations and maintenance and strategy consulting. Using green building standard and certification such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Existing Building Operation and Maintenance Rating System (EBOM) and Malaysian Carbon Reduction and Environment Sustainability Tool (MyCREST) under Operation & Maintenance Stage, as a framework for operations and upgrades and documenting the sustainable performance to manage the facilities at minimum or no additional costs.
