Overview

The course is to provide an individual with an understanding of Lighting Principles and its Technology. The individual would be guided for Lighting Design Applications and the use of DIALux as a Lighting Design Tool.

Goal

  1. A precise course to become a lighting knowledgeable individual
  2. Understand of quality lightings and its components
  3. Understand lighting design processes and tools
  4. Perform lighting designs based on neede applications

Course Outline

Section 1: Princlples of Lighting

This section assumes some basic knowledge of lighting but a review will set the scene for the rest of the course content. A complete understanding of several important criteria in this subject area is crucial to understanding the application of lighting design.

  • Daylighting and Lighting Principles
  • Lighting Languages, Terms and Units
  • Quality Characteristics of Lighting
  • Human Centric Lighting

Section 2: Lighting Technology

Provides the physical breakdown of a luminaire, components and available Lighting Control System. With understanding of components selection and systems available, the lighting design processes in the following sections would be well understood.

  • Types of Lighting and Installationsamps and Luminaires
  • Lighting Components
  • Lighting Control Systems
  • Lighting Protection Classes

Section 3: Lighting Design Introduction

Provides an understanding of lighting design criteria which is to be used for a particlar space. The process and tools would then be used to achieve the particular design needs.

  • The Art and Science of Lighting Design Principles
  • Lighting Design Tools
  • Lighting Design Process

Section 4: Lighting Design using DIALux

Individuals during this section would be thought on using DIALux as a lighting design tool. From learning through the four (4) collections, the individual would be able to design, generate outputs and optimize lightings according to the needs of themselves or clients.

Collection 1

  • Basic Settings and User Interfaces
  • Planning of Spaces

Collection 2

  • Creating spaces and rooms
  • Importing CAD drawings (DWG,DXF)
  • Inserting building elements

Collection 3

  • Inserting furniture and objects
  • Placing colours and texture

Collection 4

  • Inserting and arranging luminaires
  • Calculation and overview of results
  • Configuration of Output Results
  • Interpretation of results to Clients

Keynote Speaker

Don Chew is the founder of Sense Advisory, engineering consultancy firm and Luminance Systems, a lighting design and manufacturing organization. As having more than 12 years’ of experience in consulting and lighting technologies, he had provided ideas and design expertise for various private corporations, engineering consulting, architecture and interior design firms. The Speaker and his team under Sense Advisory, had provided their lighting design services to assist consultants, business owners and even suppliers to meet technical and regulatory requirements of lighting engineering designs. Such industries include residential, commercial, transportation and oil and gas applications. With the addition of Luminance Systems as a lighting product designer, manufacturer and also an OEM manufacturing partner of Philips Malaysia, the Speaker have even further technical product knowledge on what constitutes a quality luminaire that provides a human-centric lighting

Participants who have successfully completed the course by attending at least 75% of the 2 days-course will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance from GreenRE. This technical seminar provides CPD points from GreenRE, IEM, LAM and ST
