The Klang Valley MRT Line 2 is due to open in 2021/ 2022 and so the tunnel and underground station construction will be well underway in 2020. This will allow unprecedented acccess into a brand new piece of underground infrastructure to experience the quality of architectural design, the complexity of tunnelling works in both SCL and TBM construction and the integration with top side developments. Construction of MRT Line 3 is expected to commence by the time.
The Variable Density Tunnel Boring Machine (VD-TBM), the first-of-its-kind expressly for the Klang Valley MRT Project in collaboration between Herrenknecht and the tunnelling contractor MMC-Gamuda, has been specifically designed for coping with the specific challenges presented by Kuala Lumpur’s extreme karstic limestone geology. This tour will visit a number of construction sites within the Greater Kuala Lumpur area to view the tunnelling work, station construction work and visitor centre.
