The traditional SMI/SMEs in Malaysia who are focusing mainly on product pricing will face a challenge due to more bilateral trades especially with China and expected reduce of the logistic cost in the next few years. Furthermore, the population growth in Malaysia may not favour for the business growth because of the market size is small and limited. Hence, business globalization is evitable but it requires horizontal integration to provide the on time and real time information that can create competitive advantage and increase product competitiveness for the stakeholders within the supply chain.
Industry 4.0 is not just about vertical integration through 9 pillars of advanced technologies to drive manufacturing but it should also include the horizontal integration through the digitization of unique features and/or processes as digital assets that can create value to the product, shorten new product and features development cycle time, provide quality services to the stakeholders in the domestic and global market. These wholesome business approach vertically and horizontally are the main objectives of implementing Industry 4.0. Ultimately, the holistically approach of Industry 4.0 should focus on the creation of a trustworthiness, friendly, cheerful and sustainable business ecosystem across entire supplier chain.
This course is an overview course for a series of workshops mainly to provide engineering and technology consultants, advisors, engineers, developers, integrators and technical staffs in SMI/SMEs with the know-how on systematic and cost effective approach to plan and execute Industry 4.0 strategy and tactics based on the adopted Reference Architectures and IEC Standards. It will also cover the practical concept of the vertical and horizontal integration through Industry 4.0 software frameworks, administrate the asset within the supply chain, develop specific application software, performs data analytics and business intelligence.
BRIEF BIODATA OF COURSE LEADER
Dr. Lee Wah Pheng started his career as Department Head of Engineering Department in 1993. His responsibility was mainly on the engineering of cable television encoder for manufacturing. He then jointed S.E.H Malaysia and became the Head of Department of Material Characterization Department from 1997 to 2006. He was engaged in setting up of a new company to research and develop microcontroller based products, wireless control technology, audio and video streaming for consumer based application, security and surveillance systems from 2010 to 2016. He is now in Tunku Abdul Rahman University College as Associate Professor and Head of Centre for Postgraduate Studies and Research to involve in the research activities related to internet of things (IoT), driving the implementing of industry 4.0 and agriculture 4.0 related projects with the industries.
